Most people know about Diabetes — how to control it with diet, exercise, and medicines. Many are also aware of serious complications like heart attack, stroke, kidney damage, eye problems, and nerve damage. But one important area is often ignored — the FOOT.
Why Foot Care Matters in Diabetes
Our feet carry the entire body weight and help maintain balance. In long-standing diabetes, high sugar levels damage nerves — a condition called neuropathy.
Neuropathy causes:
- Burning or tingling sensation.
- Numbness and loss of feeling.
- Inability to sense heat, cold, or injury.
Because of this, small cuts, cracks, burns, or shoe bites may go unnoticed and slowly turn into diabetic foot ulcers.

Early Warning Signs
Watch for:
- Cracked heels
- Corns and callosities.
- Dry, thick skin.
- Shoe bite marks.
- Foot deformity or redness.
Ignoring these signs can lead to infection and even amputation.

Common Mistakes Patients Make
- Not checking feet daily.
- Wearing improper footwear.
- Self-treating wounds.
- Buying footwears online without medical advice.
- Delaying consultation with specialists.
